Picture 1-3: I made these owls for Toys for Tots.
As much as I love making items for friends, I never feel like making plush toys, because I’m pretty sure every newborn baby in my circle of friends is getting plenty. I really enjoy making plush toys, but I’d rather make one that’s gonna be used&loved than one that’s gonna be one of the bunch :).
To be honest I’m not completely happy with the result, stuffing is hard and I guess making the same thing 5x is not in my nature.
Picture 4: This is actually the very first sewing project I made on my own! (in August 2011)
Picture 5: I made this Miss Owl for my niece (born 12/30) and altered the pattern a little bit by adding
stuffing and crinkly plastic to the wings, only attaching them partly to the body.

Wonderful idea and a great cause! Maybe this could be a matching challenge for the rest of us.

aww thanks!! I wanted to go for quantity instead of complexity (this is a very simple project but cute,so it won’t matter to kids I think), as I heard Toys for Tots is getting much less donations due to crisis. I only spend about $10-$12 on the 5 owls! I love making plushes, but my apartment is full,so I figured this year I’ll make whatever plush I want and then gift them to Toys for Tots at the end of the year.I’m hoping to make 12, one a month sounds doable :) Looking forward to your (possible) contribution :)

thanks! I actually never found out if Toys for Tots accepts handmade gift, but figured they wouldn’t throw them away and in worst case scenario gift them to another charity :) or so i hope! haha
