Description

My friend Martina has asked me to do an outfit for her, as she is invited to a wedding. I love her and knew instantly, what i wanted to do for her. something similar to my “sherlock holmes” but a bit more dandy.

we ended up doing a pair of trousers and a waistcoat using a dark blue very light wool material (that has as well a little off-white in it, so while moving, the material has a “changeant” effect. the backside of the waistcoat (as well as the inside) and the scarf are made in bright red silk. the colors look lovely together (i think at least) and we are happy, that i could convince martina to those colors, as she initially wanted it to be more balanced and not so much contrasts, but the result suits her soooo well!

Material Notes

light weight woll in dark blue and off white changeant
bright red silk
thread and buttons

I have a grey skirt with red peek-a-boo pleats that I’m not exactly finished with – just need to hem it up really but been too lazy to get it done – and I was wondering what to make to go with it and this waist coat is perfect!!! I will take my grey and red fabric and try to duplicate this piece of genius! I love it!

Is that the Jason pattern? You did a great job on the pockets, I just made one that I ended up scrapping because I didn’t care enough to take out my mistakes and fix them. /cringe But yours looks fantastic.

thank you very much…… i initially had the jason pattern but changed it around so many times, that it is only in its basics still jason. thank you very much for your compliment about my pockets. i “learned” how to do them through a book from burda (it explains about everything you could ever think off in reg. of sewing)

I love your projects, I wanted to comment on all of them! I just took a tailoring class, so I know how much time and patience goes into a tailored garment! Beautiful work, I especially love the dark wool and red silk combo here! Your friends are extremely lucky to have someone as talented as you making them these amazing outfits :)

Ralf, this is stunning. Such a brilliant combo of fabrics and colour. The unsung skill of a designer / craftsman / tailor is the ability to convince the customer that you know best…. and you certainly do :-)

    Pocket perfection!

Such a flattering silhouette – the backside is as good as the front side (and that’s saying something!).
