I’m going on holiday very soon, and even though I’m not a “beach person” (try getting me to sit still long enough, my freckly pale colouring nonwithstanding), I know we’ll be going to a few pools and a municipal beach while I’m away. So I aimed towards making a beach coverup that I wouldn’t mind wearing out and about, and I’m pretty happy with the results!

I love your idea for the towel dress.
But it looks like you may have some competition… Somebody invented another kind of towel dress called the Towelini…It’s for the beach. But it’s less elaborate than yours.

Mirela – I didn’t use any pattern at all. The body part I just cut out, and the hood I traced off an old, close-fitting hoodie I like. I used a bit of the towel’s selvedge to act as a stop at the deep V neck. And Elainemay – I love Merimekko! I only wish I could afford their fabric, even in the sales it’s too expensive!

Adorable! Much better than anything you could buy in a store. It reminds me of garments from the Finnish design company Marimekko, both in cut and pattern. I would never have had the guts to cut up that pretty towel- go you- it definitely paid off!

I love it! What a fun piece. I’d really like to see a how-to also…

Beautiful!
I just got some towel like stretch fabric for a beach dress I have in mind, and I’d love to hear what pattern you used?
I’m moving on the beach next at the month and I’d better get ready, plus there were more colors of the same stuff I’d like to get.

That’s so cool! The pattern is awesome, and awesommely positioned on the dress.

Fabulous! What a great idea to refashion a beach towel into a beach cover-up!
Did you create your own pattern? Better still will you be adding this to your how to’s for all of us to try? Enjoy your holiday, in style!
