Description

I have been seeing this image floating around Pinterest of a Red and white striped pleated skirt which always piqued my sewing sensors.
While at the local fabric store I found an Orange and white striped cotton sateen fabric which had the perfect texture to hold pleats.

I didn’t use a pattern for this skirt. But I did use some mathematics to work out pleat folds and how many pleats I can have to fit around my waist. It was tricky but what good things aren’t tricky? I also used about 1 billion pins to hold the pleats in while I measured and ironed. Its always good to have a back up box of pins!

In the end I am pretty satisfied with this skirt as it’s very striking and classic. The only annoying thing is having to iron in the pleats every time I finish wearing it.

    looks great! did you make the skirt out of two rectangular pieces and then pin the pleats?

      yes i did! and then i added a waistband at the top. =)

    Goodness, this looks awesome. Love the colour choice, orange looks more ‘fresh’ than red.

    is it possible to stitch right on the edge of the pleat? to hold it?

      Thanks for the comment! I suppose you could do that! it would take a lot more thread but yeah that’s a possibility!
