It has been a grueling 2 days and I’m exhausted. My body is sore. My knees are aching and my hands are coarse. Sadly, I’m still recuperating after being inside the trenches. OPERATION SEW was tough!
During my vacation, I took the opportunity to declutter and organize my “Battlefield of Sewing”. After disassembling my office nook several years ago to replace it with a dining vignette (which I never used); it was swallowed by my passion for art, design and NOW sewing – once again.
The first thing I did to organize myself was to make matching sewing accessories that includes a military tool-belt for all of my sewing tools and gadgets, a new grenade wrist pin cushion and a camouflage dust-cover for my sewing machine. Since I tend to leave my sewing tools all over the house when I’m working and my cheap wrist pin cushion from Joann’s didn’t fit properly, it only made since to make these things to make my life easier.
I also created a new sewing nook. The nook is furnished with the beautiful and modern Micke desk and Spontan magnetic board and magnets (for sketches and inspiration) from IKEA, adjustable shelving (which I previously had in the space prior to dismantling it years ago), a modern stool (I found on sale at WestElm) and file storage boxes and printer (below desk). Most importantly, there is still room to grow on the shelves above. Thinking ahead, I’m considering filling them with clear bins to store my fabrics according to color, but I’m not sure how functional that’ll be.

That hand grenade pin cushion has put a big smirk on my face that’s going to be sitting there for a while :D Fantastic job, such a good idea to take out some time to get organized. I love your work, keep it up in 2011 :)
