This is a one-shoulder dress I made from a pattern of the “Shirley Dress” found here: http://fitzpatterns.myshopify.com/collections/free/products/2311-shirley-off-the-shoulder-dress-sewing-pattern.
I altered the asymmetrical skirt to be straight across, (accidentally) thinned the width of the belt, and added thread loops. This is supposed to be a dress, but as I am uncomfortable with the short length (and as this was my first gung-ho project, I didn’t think enough to compare the length to my own body before cutting:-)), I wear it over jeans or slacks, kind of slouch-y.
Made from a Travel Knit.

i find zippers easy to b honest! i just hand sew them in rather then use the machine which can b such a headache! lol hmmm i dont particularly like working with stretchy materials bit fussy i think thats why i like silk and satin and cotton better!!! ty!!!

Yes, I wish I would have known that before I chose that fabric for my first sewing project! I figured, no wrinkles, no zipper, satin-y slippery finish, no lining needed; what more could a novice want!
It was slippery to cut and I made a mockery of correct thread tension settings; I was delusional. I got through it okay with a few seam rips though and even went on to use the remains for another dress. Which turned out semi-much better…

It will work with anything stretchy, if, like me, you compare putting in a zipper to a painful dentist’s visit. A necessary evil, sometimes avoided ‘cause you just don’t feel like it.

It looks very well made! Nice looking as it is, in despite of the length!

Thank you! This was my first dress ever (I just started sewing in July), so I appreciate the nice comment!
