This dress is a knock-off of the Knip mode dress I saw on Sigrid’s blog.
If you haven’t read her blog so far, you should really take a look, since Sigrid is a skillful seamstress with a great sense of style. Besides, she is so generous with sharing tips and tricks of the trade. This is not the first garment I made that was inspired by Sigrid’s work.
Anyway, the dress is not an identical twin of the original, it’s more like a very-look-alike-younger-sister :)
I liked a lot the origami detail on the front neckline and did an intense brainstorming before figuring out how it was done. To tell you the truth, it’s not that difficult to draft it! I might post a tutorial, or even a pattern for this dress, but I am making no promises, since it involves a lot of time, which I haven’t had enough lately.
The dress is fully lined (I forgot to take pictures of the lining, which is a pitty, since it’s so cute and I am so proud of how I sewed it) and it has an invisible zipper installed at the back center seam.
Linen for the fashion fabric, microfiber for the lining, zipper

This is beautiful. You are very skilled. Could you please let me know how you drafted the origami bit of the dress?

Thanks for commenting!
I’ll try to make a tutorial, but it’ll take some time (I don’t think I could explain it merely in words – it requires some visual illustration).

YOU DID IT AGAIN! PERFECT!

Wow, you really made it work. I’m impressed by how you drafted this, I only had to follow the pattern. Love your “younger sister” version very much, it looks very much like my dress (of which I have yet to post finished pictures).

Wow!! This dress has inspired me to make a dress of my own. I have linen fabric that would be great for a dress like this. I’m so impress with your sewing skills.

Gracias, amiga! I’m sorry, but I don’t know the issue number – I don’t have an access to the KnipMode magazine here, in Serbia. I would suggest you to ask either Melissa (squirrellypoo), Ghainskom, or Sigrid, since they all have that issue. You would look gorgeous in the dress! :)

Wow I can’t believe you made this without the pattern! I have this KnipMode issue and the pieces are not at all intuitive! Your dress is just phenomenal!

Thanks Melissa!
I saw the pattern pieces on Sigrid’s blog, and I noticed that mine are slightly different, but the overall construction idea is the same. However, I’ve gotta admit it – I had several moments of complete confusion while sewing the pleats and I had to re-do some steps to make it perfect.
It is definitely not a novice-level technique, but it isn’t as difficult as it might appear.
P.S. Isn’t it interesting how the sewing community works world wide – Sigrid was inspired by your post, and I got inspired by hers? :)

Anajan what an attractive dress! I like your fabric choice and color. I also enjoyed the blog recommendation you gave. This dress has inspired me to play around with some additional origami details in clothing. Keep up the good work!

I am olive green with envy over your wardrobe Ana. ;^)

This is very skilled. I can only dream to be able to make something as elaborate as this without a pattern. Fantastic choice of colour and material. I love linen for all year round.

so so beautiful! Love the elegant tucks. This dress is masterful in its ‘seeming’ simplicity—- Wait, was that a pun!
Looks beautiful on you, like always your fit is like a glove! The linen is fantastic for the cut.

Oh no, you didnt! I just got this back issue of Knipmode a week ago and have been drooling all over this dress. I’ve been thinking about changing it to an A-line skirt but it’s just perfect this way. Super!

I am perfectly conscious both of my skill limits and of my lack of originality in commenting… but the olive linen is gorgeous, the fit perfect and the origami detail so beautiful (and not too girlish). Girl, you’d better watch your dress closely! : D
