Burda Style For people who sew

Mum was given this rocking chair by a friend, waaaaaaaay back in the days when I thought Savage Garden were cool. When I moved out, she very kindly passed this lovely item of furniture on to me – something the cat will forever be grateful for.

At the moment, I’m getting the spare room ready for our new arrival, and rather than buy all new furniture, I thought I’d repurpose some of what I already have. So, to help it tie in with the rest of the new decor, I recovered this beloved old rocking chair in fabric to match the new curtains.

I think the curtains originally came from Ikea – once again via Mum – but they needed drastically shortening to fit my teeny windows. I used the leftovers to make envelope cushion covers for the chair, and simply sewed up the corners to make the edges round. I’m really pleased with how this turned out. It looks perfect in the nursery – lots more contemporary than the original floral pattern and very ‘gender neutral’ as we’re not sure what we’re having yet. The car scatter pillow is an old one I had, made with some Echino fabric, whilst the red one is made from scraps of a Berber scarf which I bought in the Sahara.
