I made this rain coat using Amy Butler’s coated fabric called English Garden Bluestone. The pattern is from a UK sewing magazine called ‘Sew’. I learnt a few tricks on how to sew with coated fabric or oil cloth through the project. You can see more details on my blog:

great raincoat. I am thinking about ordering oil cloth fabric since a year now, may I ask you a question: How does this fabrics feel like? Is it very stiff and can the air circulate? I am afraid of sweating in it a lot.

I won’t use home dec oil cloth for making clothing but Amy Butler’s is really quite soft and much more breathable than other oil cloth I’ve seen. Highly recommend for making rain coat!

Thanks! The fabric is really inspiring. I think it’d be cool to make a hip length version as well!

Yes it’s really good and soft. I think there are other beautiful prints in the same collection.
