I made this outfit to wear to one of Melbourne’s horse racing days – Oaks Day – the Thursday meeting of the Spring Racing Carnival. The peplum top was very easy to make and I will try another I am sure. The skirt it just a plain pencil skirt (no waist band). Pattern was from my collection of underutlised patterns.
I altered the top by adding a simple block waist band. This provided some additional length to combat my longer than typical torso. I also moved the zip from the centre back to under the arm. I omitted the small sleve and interface the neck and arm holes to give the outfit a more ‘spring’ appearance.
A clever friend made the hat for me.
The fabric was cheap at $3 metre. I am not sure what it was but it had a thick satin feel. It was lovely to work with and lovely to wear and remained looking neat for the whole day.
The shoes and matching bag cost considerably more but they tied the outfit together and provided some colour.

You look lovely and I think the skirt and peplum top are perfect for you. You have made them both beautifully. As for the shoes and handbag, they are perfect and finish everything off so well.
