I had the Talea coat on my list for a while before I found the perfect fabric – an old blanket. The limited material meant I had to sacrifice pockets, but I love all the little details. It’s super cosy.
Outer - some sort of woolen blend Lining - plain red cotton

Your coat looks awesome. I’ve tried making one but something went wrong. It turned out well but like 4 sizes too big. What size are you (if you don’t mind me asking) and what size pattern did you use? I mesured myself and all but the whole thing just swamped me. I’m am a NZ/UK 10-12 which is US 8-10 German 38. i would love to make it again but don’t want to waste nice fabric and have it not fit.

Sorry to hear it didn’t work for you. When I circle my measurements on the Burda sizing chart it looks like a random scattergraph ranging from 32-46 which explains why I find it impossible to buy clothes that fit properly.
I cut this coat out in the largest size available – 44 to fit my bust, (though I’m more like 42, UK 14) so it’s probably a little looser than necessary at the waist but otherwise it fits pretty well.

How big was the blanket? I bought a couple of wool blankets 2nd hand a couple of months ago wanting to make into a coat….and I found this awesome pattern, yay!

I’m not sure exactly, but I know it was a real squash to get all the pattern pieces on. I guess it was around 2m by 1.5m.

Great coat and I like your blog! I have some old sheets, but the fabric is so ugly… no idea what to do with it.

Oh man this is awesome, every time I have tried to do something with plaid in the last 6 months it has gone awry but this is very inspiring! And that plaid! Wow I would have loved that blanket but this is so beautiful!

Wow!! This is great! I love that you used a blanket and I love the plaid. I made this out of raincoat fabric and found the pattern worked really well. Still snowy in Cardiff??
