99% of the bag is “recycled”. The materials came all from garage sales and thrift stores except for the thread. The closure works by taking the tassel hanging from the lower button and winding it around the larger button.
I enlarged the original pattern for the main part of the bag (not the straps) and added a flap for closure. I also added inside pockets made out of the cuffs of the shirt.
The outside fabric is made from cotton curtains. The inside fabric is an old dupioni silk shirt. The buttons come from an old dress. I used silk thread to make the tassel closure.

I really love this bag and the fabric is gorgeous…..its a bit different to all the normal bags you find and i love the tassel closure. I have just downloaded the pattern and am going to make a whole batch of them for christmas gifts! I only have 18 weeks to find the fabric and get stitching! Yes it really is only 18 weeks til christmas….scary.
