Nora's dress

Added Aug 30, 2011

Copenhagen, Denmark

I made this dress for my cousin’s daughter. She is one year old and she will wear it when she will be baptized.

I made the pattern myself and learned a lot on the way. I especially had a hard time sewing the ribbon on the dress, but in the end I figured how to do it. The blue “flower” turned out a little too heavy for this dress – I used cotton – but next time I know I should choose a lighter fabric.

I was very nervous in the beginning, because the satin and organza are so much more delicate and lighter fabrics, than the ones I worked with before, plus I had a very tight deadline. But in the end, I was very proud, that I could make it in time (though I skipped a night of sleeping), and I was very happy how it turned out.
It was just heartbreaking sending it away with the post right after…

Garment Type

This is so beautiful. How did you make the flower?

Thanks! Glad, you ask about the flower. It took me a few hours to figure out what I want, and how I can make it. I made like 3 different kind of flowers. It still doesn’t look like how I imagined, but it was fairly easy to make.

I took a long fabric, I folded it lengthwise and baste stitched it, then I just simply gathered the fabric along the stitch and formed a flower. I made 3 blue and one purple flower and sewed them together. I hope it was clear enough. :)
