When Nora and Benedikta went to the Bambi Awards, we had the lucky chance to make their gowns. Here’s the regal opulence with ethnic flair we came up with for Nora. The underskirt peeks out from center front and at the hem, the embroidered detail frames the face as fit for a queen, and the curved seaming adds extra couture touch. Just in time for Prom season, we can’t wait to see your creations.

my daughter really likes this pattern so i would like to print it for her but, what are the sizes in which it is available? can’t seem to find sizes anywhere. i am new to this site so am still finding my way around

ok just found sizes.is there any chance it will be available in plus sizes in the future. i could just bring it up to the next size but it is such a pain doing it and would just love to have it done for me. am getting lazy in my old age!

I think this is beautiful too! When you plus size this pattern, perhaps you could just do every second size, as we all come inbetween sizes in various areas, and most of us have to adjust parts anyway? just to make your life easier…..

I love this!! I am actually going to be making this for my wedding dress with longer “angel” sleeves, and a full dress underneath as a Medieval styled wedding dress. What I would love to know, is where can I find that trim?!?!?! I love it and would love to add trim like that to mine. Thank you

Gorgeous! My husband and I are going to renew our vows sometime in the next year or two. I can envision a unique bridal dress in some soft colors. I can’t wait to get this pattern in my hands and some test fabric!

This is gorgeous! Last September my daughter and I were at the fabric shop leafing through pattern magazines. She saw a costume for plus sizes in Simplicity and said it would make and awesome Prom dress. So I promptly bought it. It is lovely but not near as lovely as this! I should have waited.

I do love the style and the colors, i personally find the decoration a bit heavy looking, though i agree the width is just right, It is just beautiful and I love the seaming, PLEASE make it in a plus size, I dont think I have the stamina to make all the pieces bigger and try to fit it myself. Lovely work.

‘Nora’ in Arabic means ‘light’, I always thought it’s the same in Hebrew! The plus size will be coming, we’ll post the pattern soon! For a cocktail dress you just have to shorten it above or below the knee (whatever you like), it’s very simple. Tell us if you have any questions!

‘nora’ in hebrew means aweful, just as we’re talking about the middle east and ethnical gowns. Well, fortunately aweful does not at all describe the dress or pretty Nora wearing it :) So, good job guys, I like it a lot and I think it’s very different from any of your other patterns which I really appreciate. Although I’m not a plus size, I could see this dress working for many body shapes, so go for it, make it a plus!

Thank you so much everyone for the nice comments! This is actually the first dress I designed for BurdaStyle! I was inspired by antique ethnic clothes as well as bedouin (North Sinai) and Arabic peninsula abayas. This is not insulting, but rather an homage!

Very cute, but it seems all the patterns on this site don’t have plus sizing. What is wrong with this picture? AND if it goes over a size 6 you have to buy it!

This is absolutely gorgeous! The colors are so rich and the beaded trim is perfect. Like others have said, Nora just glows in it. Absolutely fantastic. I’d love to see it in a Plus size version. Please hurry, because I’m already thinking of how I’d play with the design! (Long sleeves, eliminate the piece at the waist, shorten to jacket length, use only the outer ‘coat’ as a jacket or long sleeves, just the outer ’coat, add a hood, eliminate the waist or make sleeveless from a light gauze with an eyelet underbodice and underskirt or . . . . .)

Can anyone suggest another fabric I could make this from that has the same movement? I dont mind losing the sheen. I’m vegan so really dont want to use silk and cant afford expensive material really. I read about cotton shantung but cant find it in the UK so any suggestions would be great! I’l be making a shorter version so I wont be using horsehair either! Thanx!

I love this, I think I will change the colour as I can’t wear yellows and make it a little shorter so its more wearable, Just need to go fabric shopping….

this seems to have a middle eastern touch with the colour, braid and vibrancy it is absolutely gorgeous. it reminds me of the arabian nights. i am short and too heavy to wear such a beautiful dress such as this. too many adjustments to the pattern for me. but i love it.
i would like to see more of your work.

This is a stunner! It would really flatter a wide range of figures and, as others have suggested, could easily go from ultraformal to summer casual with a change of fabric and trim. Please do make a plus version of this!

This is just crazy awesome! I’ve always loved overskirts like that. The inverted V is exceptionally flattering on all body types, especially us curvy girls. Burdastyle, I LOVE the direction you’ve taken lately. There has been so many wearable and classic styles lately, and I love it.
Also girls, this will look equally great in a more casual fabric. I recommend linen for summer. Another option is to go up a size, shorten the skirt and make a jacket of it.
Everythingsfree: How is “ethnic” insulting? The fabric combination and colours are quite Indian-ish, and I believe this shape was big among the hippies, who borrowed from far-eastern cultures. I have seen the same overskirt in many medieval european fashions.

This is very pretty, but why is it described as ‘Ethnic’? It’s kind of an insulting descriptor, and I don’t really see anything ‘ethnic’ about the dress. ‘Ethnic’ from what culture?

Very Chanel 70’s. I remember my mother wearing dresses like this in very thick silks. Come to think of it I remember our neighbours’ father wore similar looking tops out of very jewel toned silks.

I agree with SallyBC, you definitely need to make a plus size version of this! The style would work really well on a larger woman. The sleeves are especially nice for those of us who don’t like to show off the tops of our arms. The dress also seems to emphasize the smallest part of the waist.
It occurred to me that a possible variation on this might be to leave off the sleeves and have it as a halter-style dress…
