The art and music school where I work (CIAMO) presented a theater piece by its students for a mask dancing festival (Festival Kaleta) here in Ouidah.
The outfits weren’t made by me, but I did help complete the outfit by making the neck ring accessories. It was a great way to use up my stash and scraps. I had leftover orange fabric from a skirt lining, and all those little awkward fabric pieces aimed for the trash were the perfect filling for them.
The tedious part was filling the tubes with scrap, but I had help from the staff so the rings quickly came together in time for the performance.
I wrote more in my sewing blog: http://cathywu.com/journal/treadling/2012/12/28/festival-kaleta-neck-rings/
