Navy and cream polka dot top #119, 2/2008

Added Sep 18, 2012

by schnui

Brisbane, Australia

I was inspired by BurdaStyle member ‘Sewing and Style’ to make this top after seeing her burgundy chiffon top made with Burda #119, 2/2008. I didn’t have enough fabric to make the collar the full width but I am happy with how it turned out.

Material Notes

Silk satin

Garment Type
Casual, Evening Wear

Thanks so much liliv. Our summer isn’t far away now so this top will worn yet again. Today I have been out shopping and just happened to pop into my favourite Fabric Store and I found a lovely knit to make this top once again. I think jersey knit is going to be more comfortable than the 2 silk ones I already have.

Oh, lucky you, our summer just passed:( Jersey is always more comfy! I want to make a silky one version of this pattern now, a polka dot like yours would be perfect!

Just the kind of top I would wear with jeans! Gotta love polka dots!

It is a while now since I made this top and it has been so useful, and particularly wearing it with jeans! Yes, gotta love polka dots.

Yes I have been sewing quite a bit and loving it. I have deferred from university for 6 months, so I have plenty of time to sew. And thank-you for your sweet comment.

Thanks Anniemollison. I actually thought the top of your dress was this pattern when I saw it here the other day. I gave you my vote for the Tessuti Awards, so good luck. I can’t believe the talent entering that competition.

I wish I had had this pattern because I winged it myself and tried 3 times to get it right! Thankyou for your vote.

Looove polka dots! What kind of fabric is that? The slippery kind? You are going to look splendid this spring!

Thanks Merche. It is silk but it wasn’t too bad to sew. I made it with French seams and they always look so neat on the inside.

ooh – this is a bit special! I’m partial to polka-dots normally, but I’m just in love with the gathering and the neckline + tie on this. I’m not surprised you were inspired – it’s gorgeous schnui!!

Thanks again Melanie. This fabric is from the Fabric Store; you have one in Melbourne I think! I overlooked this pattern for ages but when I saw it on ‘Sewing and style’, it really inspired me and again it was very easy.
