nautical 'R'

Bungendore, Aust...

Inspired by this dress, serendipitously facilitated by Peneloping’s clever use of bias binding for the trim on her lovely version and then the discovery of a suitable length of navy blue linen-ish fabric at a yard sale!

The pattern is dress ‘R’ from ‘Stylish Dress Book – wear with freedom’. I changed the gathers at the front to a short sewed-down pleated section (as it was too balloonish with the gathers), added side-seam pockets (utilising an online tutorial of course) and shortened the sleeves.

So maybe enough over-the-head loose and flared tops for now? I think I’ll make the next thing I sew a fitted something!

Material Notes

some kind of navy blue cotton or linen blend broad cloth; light grey bias binding

This is a gorgeous tunic top and because I love navy and white, I really like this. Leggings would look great with it as well as your jeans and if you want a great leggings pattern, StyleArc have a good one. They are so quick and easy to sew.
