This is a dress made from Simplicity 2724. I was thinking about Zoe’s post over on the Colette Pattern’s Blog of how to break up a printed fabric with a solid or subtle printed fabric. Then I saw this pattern and knew it would be the perfect dress for this application. The top section is made from Heather Bailey’s Nicey Jane printed cotton and the bottom is a wool/poly blended herringbone. This dress has a smashing side zip that is applied with the best lapped handpicked zipper application known to man. There were a few fitting adjustments made to the original pattern to get it to fit like a glove and there were a few things I altered with the pattern itself. I made a lining for the skirt portion which the pattern didn’t call for and I eliminated the facing for the sleeve and gave it a bias binding instead. I’m thrilled with how well it turned out and absolutely love the fact that its so easy to wear to work or a night out. For more on this dress visit my blog.

This is just gorgeous!!! Having been a secretary (fond of glamor) in a not so long ago past life – I know this outfit would have rocked the office world! This is beautiful, harmonious contrast. That blue lining on the skirt is “wow”!

I thought this was a skirt and blouse at first. I like the idea of combining the two into a dress so you don’t have to worry about the blouse coming untucked! Great fabric choice for the top, it looks really good on you!

Great job! A few of my students are making this project (the skirt only). I’ll definitely show them the pictures as inspiration to make the complete dress.

“I’m your secretary.” Love it! The print combo, fit, fancy sleeve finish, and that lining peaking out. Off to the blog, where I hope to find out more about this amazing zipper application :) Ima get this pattern, too. What a copycat, hehe!
