I saw a skirt like this online recently and decided to try making one for myself. I didn’t have a pattern for this and instead played around with different ideas as I went along. I started with a big rectangle of cotton as a sort of lining. Next I made scalloped edged strips of fabric in black and white cotton which I evenly spaced and sewed down on the original rectangle. I finished by adding front and back darts, adding a waistband, and sewing in the zipper. It was a fun process and I’m very happy with how it turned out. Anyone have a cocktail party I can attend?
Black and white cotton, interfacing, and a black zipper.

Amazing skirt! It’s so cute and so creative!! It looks like a fun geometric patterned fabric.. only better since there are actual scalloped layers! :]

Beautiful and apart skirt. I like it much more form the distance. What about the detail ( shapes ) work I have to agree with Lauriana. But the idea is absolutely great.

What a great skirt! If not for the geographical distance, I’d start planning a cocktail party straight away: Burdastyle girls in the great creations they might not get to wear otherwise! Just one technical question though (I fully admit I’m a sewing nerd ;): from the detail shot, it looks to me like the edges of the scallops are unfinished. Is that so, and don’t they fray in wearing and washing the skirt? (the only way I would know to finish shapes like these and get the same effect would be to make them all double, like you would make cuff or collar shapes, which would be a hell of a lot of work)

I’m guessing that the fabric has been backed with fusible interfacing, which helps to stop the fraying…
