I spotted this dreamy feather-covered nude chiffon at Spotlight a while back but didn’t buy it as I had a few sewing projects lined up at the time. Next thing I knew, it was in with the clearance fabrics and at $6.00 a metre, how could I resist? I thought it would be ideal for a sorbetto with some sort of sleeve. In all my excitement about grabbing a bargain and thinking up sleeve variations, I completely neglected my usual routine of holding up the bolt of fabric in front of my body, in front of the mirror. Big mistake – the nude shade against my skin-tone really does make me look naked! awkward
I drafted the bell sleeve with assistance from My Measuring Tape’s Blog Adapting a Basic Sleeve
I decided to cut the sleeve on the bias to allow the floaty chiffon to drape better. The pattern was easy to use and pattern instructions easy to follow. There are just two pattern pieces, bust darts, a box pleat detail down the front midline and no fiddly closures! The neckline, armscye and all inside seams are finished with self-made bias tape.
Retro printed ‘linen feather’ polyester chiffon, 144cm wide ($6.00/metre, Spotlight clearance bin); thread
