Description

Last year I remember seeing this beautiful dress that RedBelka made and completely falling in love with it. I was surprised to hear that pattern comes from May 1990. issue of Burda! Since hunting old Burda magazines is one of my favorite hobbies I just added another one to my list, and luckily a few weeks ago I finally found it. It’s really a great issue, there’s several patterns that went straight to my sewing queue and this one had to be made immediately!

This dress comes in size 20, which is like petite version of size 40. Since I’m almost 180cm tall and I wear size 38 I added 1.5cm to bodice length and I took back and side seams in a bit. I also made neckline lower, the original one was a bit too high and combined with bust gathering it made my bewbs look like they start from under my chin! Which (unfortunately?) they do not :D
In retrospect I think I should’ve take it in even more, bodice is quite loose on me – especially around the waist and under the arms. Fit wise this irritates me, but on the other hand I love how loose and non restrictive it feels – it’s very comfortable for summer heat! I think I’ll leave it be for this summer, and then maybe fix it for the next year. We’ll see how it goes :)

I know that if I say it every time I make something new the statement kinda loses its strength – but this dress is my favorite one ever! Seriously! I love the cut, little ruched sleeves and full flowy skirt. Also, I really really love the fabric – I was stashing this cotton voile for I don’t how long! It feels good to finally use it for something :)
Big thanks to Marija for taking this photos – she needed a model for her photography class assignment and I needed pictures of my new dress. Match made in heaven :)

Great dress! You make it in a perfect way ! This was my dream dress since I both this issue of burda in 1990 ! all those years I did not have a chance to make it , but now I am going to make my dreams true:-) Could you be so kind to tell me , if you make he skirt like in tha pattern? It seems like you make it a little bit larger, maybe a full circle, or not? Take my best regards and Thank you for the inspiration!!!!

Thank you, I’m so glad to hear that you like the dress and plan to make one yourself! This issue is really good, I hope I’ll have the time to make another pattern from it this summer. As for the skirt, apart from making it shorter I didn’t change a thing. There’s four skirt panels and I can’t remember was it a full circle, but it was definitely very close. I remember it being a fabric eater though! If you feel like the skirt is too big for your taste maybe change it to half circle or simpler gathered skirt, I’m sure it won’t affect the overall look.

Oh, thank you so much! You should wear whatever color you like, if you feel good in it it will show! That being said – I think blue is definitiely your color, you always look great in any shade of blue!

Earthy colors are made for you! I can’t think of many women who would look so good in this color! It’s a lovely dress and the photos are great, too.

Thanks Elpida! I really love warm colos so your comment kinda made my day :) I was never too big on astrology but over time I came to believe that there must be something – or it’s just the coincidence that I’m an earth sign in zodiac :)

Bravo!

Thank you! Reissuing is a great idea – then we would have this pattern in a range of sizes! In old Burda magazines patterns come in one or two sizes only :(

Lovely dress and fabric! Old magazines can reveal some really cool items, I tend to go through my mom’s collection about once a year myself :D
