I haven’t posted much since I left the BurdaStyle team last February to pursue my clothing line, Dahl NYC, full-time, so I thought it was time to share my favorite project since-my wedding! Designing and sewing my wedding gown was an aspect of wedding planning I truly relished. I have to say it was the most rewarding project I’ve ever taken on. A wedding can be the ultimate fashion show: you walk down the aisle (or grass in my case) and all eyes are upon you and your wedding party. I asked seven of my lady friends & family to be my maids and created all of their bridesmaids dresses, as well as the flower girls’. It was a lot to take on, but such a special experience, and I used the designs as a catalyst to launch a new collection.
My gown: I draped the gown pattern entirely on a dress form and learned how to create circular ruffles for the skirt—a nifty technique of cutting out circular strips of fabric to create a fluttering ruffle which is not gathered. Cut from silky stretch charmeuse, the bodice hugs your curves while allowing for movement and comfortability. Vintage tulle with delicate beading was attached to the bodice—for that “something old” feel. The skirt is cut from luxurious mushroom-pleated chiffon with light blush and ivory circular ruffles that cascade downwards, fluttering as you move.
Material Notes
Bodice: Silk stretch charmeuse, vintage beaded tulle. Skirt: Silk mushroom pleated chiffon. Ruffles: Silk organza

Absolutely stunning! I love the tight fit of your dress, it doesn’t seem so heavy like those classic wedding gowns and I really like the draping on the lower part. The bridesmaid’s’ dresses are a success too. Well done and thanks for sharing!

Congrats on your wedding. What a beautiful dress and how fit for a wedding set in such a romantic scenery, and if I may comment on the groom (poor grooms, they never get enough credit). Amazing styling! The best of luck on your new clothing line.

Ahw, yes, the groom did a very good job with his outfit (which we bought at J-Crew) and he gave it his own spin. Thanks so much :)
