I have this amazing pair of shoes. Pink, blue, white and orange. Such shoes deserve a matching dress. So I made this version of the retro Butterick 4790 dress. It’s not perfect – even after some adjustments. It’s a little big around the bust area and a little tight around the waist (which surprised me as I usually have to take in dresses around the waist area). I also lengthened the dress front and back as I am rather tall and I figured that the pattern was not made for tall women. I shouldn’t have done that – I had to try and shorten it again, not so easy. Anyways, the dress is very very easy to sew – and now I know what to do – and especially what not to do :-)
The pink fabric is cotton and the dotted a blend.

Great style sense, and your kids are adorable, they look so colorful and mod in the cute outfits you are continually making them! You also look great, love the mom/daughter combos. Thanks for sharing, you are definitely SEW talented!

Thanks for your review on this dress. I have the pattern and am planning to make it. I love the fabrics you chose- you always have nice bold fabrics for your creations. And I totally love the shoes! I wish I could find ones like that around here.

You’ve done a lovely job of this dress. I have been tempted to purchase this pattern myself, and after reading many, many reviews – I must say – I chickened out!! But you have conquered the “Walk Away Dress” and your fabric combination is a fabulous hit along with the shoes! You should be very proud!

Great colours! I love the big polka dots and the white bias is perfect inbetween the two fabrics, I never would have throught to use them together. This is another of those patterns I own and really need to make up! :)

Oh, I always wanted to be Rizzo (but I think she would prefer a more fitted dress :-) – that will be my next project.

Oh! I HAVE this pattern! I’ve been wondering what it looks like in “real life.” Thank you.
Did you have any particular problems in the construction I should look out for (I am not tall)?

The neckline and shoulder area are a bit broad I think. My shoulders are pretty broad but I had to take this in a bit (and the dress is still not quite good) – maybe by going down one size this would help for me.
