I wanted a leather jacket than goes with everithing, and fits like a glove…to buy one it’s very expensive, and I’m a XS size..so they don’t fit me well. So I decided to try and make one. And because it was the first time doing a leather jacket, I thought I’d use leather from 2 pairs of trifted pants( like 1$ both pairs), so I don’t ruin new expensive leather. The insinde it’s hot pink satin, the zippers cost more than the lather :) , and for the pattern…well I made it.:)( I made the sleeves pattern, and for the rest I modified a dress bodice pattern) you can see in the muslin picture( I kept the muslin as a layer, so than the jacket cand be worn all autumn long!:)
It feels and fits perfectly! What do you guys think of it?:) I really wanna know:)
black leather, muslin, pink satin, metalic zippers.

Thank you! Uf, I don’t have a pattern…I drafted the pattern in the muslin, and that remained in the interior of the jacket..Next time I’ll save the pattern, I didn’t thought everyone would like it this much!

Love the sleeves! Love the pink Satin lining! This is a gorgeous leather jacket. I’d wear it everyday if i didn’t live in the Caribbean and it’s just too hot for leather anything here

Fantastic creativity! I would make a collar for the jacket, but anyway your option and work you did on it are great! I would love to have such courage to sew leather.

That’s fantastic! You did such a great job! I love the two-piece sleeves, because that’s not usually how a two-piece sleeve is done. Way to break convention! I think you definitely call this jacket a HUGE success :D

That is one gorgeous jacket! I have been thinking about giving jacket making a go, but I really don’t think my sewing machine will handle such thick material! Any advice for sewing with leather? Also- I know you have said you used a simple dress pattern for to create the bodice, have you accounted for what you’ll be wearing underneathe becuase that was something else I have been unsure about – I.e. how much do you need to account for? congrats on an awesome garment xxx

If my machine can handle leather, any machine can:) I made it very fitted to the body, but I can still wear a sweater underneath! You can fit the pattern with the muslin, and when you’re sure it’s perfect, you can cut the lining and the leather. And sewing leather it’s fun! You cand sew leather with your normal seweing machine, the secret is to loose the thread tension a bit more, and maybe choose a larger sewing step.

Thank you! I will take a photo with me wearing it soon. It’s preety easy sewing leather, the secret is to loose the thread tension a bit more, and maybe choose a larger sewing step.:)

Thank you:) It’s not hard…I made leather purses before and it was harder because it was new leather. You cand sew leather with your normal seweing machine, the secret is to loose the thread tension a bit more, and maybe choose a larger sewing step.:) So good luck and can’t wait to see your first leather project!

Masty I love love you comment!:) I don’t have a pattern…I patterned on the muslin, wich ended up a layer in the inside of the jacket, to keep me warm:). But it’s simple… you just make the sleeve top longer for the puff pleats, and for the rest I used a basic bodice patten that I twisted a little:).

It is very chic! Love the silhouette :) I would attach the zip more discretely though, however that is what makes this jacket funky :)
