My son has wanted to be a Dementor (from Harry Potter) for Halloween since last year, so I made him this costume. It was perfectly creepy as he walked down the street! I used Simplicity pattern 9887 and altered it to fit him. The pattern itself is actually really nice, it has some nice lines and detailing to it that you can’t really see in the pictures. I’m thinking that I may make a waist length version out of a pretty wool for myself to wear this winter.
I bought some black fabric, which I thought was polyester, on the sale rack for $1 a yard. In working with it, I think it's actually rayon. I may take apart the costume and make myself a skirt or something with it. The wispy parts on the sleeves were two kinds of poly organza.
