My first Rooibos! And what a great time I had sewing this :) I have to say I am always astonished by Colette patterns’ excellent instructions. Had no problem what so ever following them.
I decided to make my Rooibos from dark blue cotton. And since I am a huge fan of polka dots I chose this cute light blue cotton as my contrast fabric. Couldn’t be happier how they turned out once combined. As it happened I had these matching polka dot buttons in my button collection. I was thrilled when I realized this. Anyway, I added these buttons to the left side seam. They don’t pop up at once but I think they add a nice little detail then the dress is used without cardigan.
When I was at last fitting the dress to decide the right length of the hem, I realized I could’t cut it any shorter. I hardly even wanted to turn it one inch since I didn’t want the dress to end up being too short. To solve this problem I ended up finishing the hem with bias tape I made from my contrast fabric.
I really love this dress! I has been a while since I have made dress to be worn outside the office and perhaps that’s why I loved sewing this one.
Two different cotton fabrics, fusible interfacing, invisible zipper and two buttons.
