Description
The red sundress was born out of an old fantasy slash memory from my childhood summers. I wanted to feel cotton against my skin and be able to button up the dress easily over my bathing suit.
For the base I used Angela Kane’s pattern, to which I made a few changes mostly in the skirt, which I turned into a flared one and added about 5 inches on each side for the pleats.
I also added the bound buttonholes detail and did an almost invisible – “blind” hem.
You can read all about it in my blog-

Material Notes
red cotton fabric, matching thread, buttons, contrasting while cotton for the buttonholes, white thread, blind hem foot.

Great dress! I’m not sure I have the patience to bind that many buttonholes, but good for you! They look amazing with the red.

Thank’s! I know what you mean:) but I actually enjoyed the process of “bounding”, it really makes you connect to the garment. It just makes you finish the dress the next day, and not in a couple of hours. I also think an easier version would be just adding white buttons.

Lovely dress! I love that you bound the buttonholes with white, that little detail makes it so much more fun :) Oh, and the buttons are the cutest! I have one red button that is very similar that I haven’t found the perfect project for yet. If only I had a few more ;)

Thank you! These are retro buttons I got at the local store, sometimes they have nice stuff! A lot of times I almost bought vintage buttons on the web, but I am afraid to be stuck with not enough of the kind I like. My most favorite buttons are the self / contrasting fabric covered ones. This is on my list of to do stuff :)
