Thanks Burda for this pattern, I think it is absolutely fabulous! I love empire waists, but usually they make me look pregnant – not this one, thanks to the pleats. I think it would flatter almost any woman.
I can make a few more checks on my list of how to become a better seamstress (precision, precision!) and improve my techinique. I used one of those invisible zippers for the first time – no biggie, except that it looks visible due to the black stripe in the fabric :-) and for the first time I lined a dress completely. I thought the fabric wouldn’t be “slippery” enough if I wear the dress with nylons. I had always shied away from lining something, but oh, was that ever worth it! Other than that… not much, it’s a perfect fit without any alterations…
cotton, silk lining, a bit of velvet

i’m new in this and i don’t understand why we need lining? when we need it? i made just 2 skirts until now and i was thinking if they needed any lining…i didn’t know and sew them without any

There is absolutely nothing wrong with unlined skirts, especially in summer! There are several aspects that might ask for lining. In this case the material isn’t slippery and I knew that if I don’t line it, it would stick to – or worse: ride up on – my stockings. With the silk lining, it slides nicely on my legs. But you can also line things for warmth, for a different drape, to get a fuller shape, to make it less see-through, or just to get a nice-looking inside… You will figure it out in time!

DId you just make this out of Cotton, plus the liner? As i’m attempting to make my first dress and on the pattern they’re on about using lots of different materials. Also was this a stretch or non-stretch fabric? Thanks very much for any help

Hi – sorry, wasn’t at the computer the past week… yes, it’s a “medium-weight” cotton, non-stretch, and silk lining. Hope that helps! Good luck with your own sewing!

Das hier ist wieder mal typisch aytak7171! :-) Super! Mir gefällt die Kombi auch gut, also der Samt-Ausbrenner mit dem Karo! Und ich fütter auch immer ab!
