My version of the very popular coffee date dress. I think I resewed just about every seam in this dress more than once. I made a size too big (I can’t remember which size, in the end!) so I had to take down the side seams, learn how to do that whole facing thing… a very good project for me in terms of learning how to do a bunch of stuff properly that I never knew how to do at all before. (Or, I had just done it wrong!) Now my mom says that I should make another, since now I know how to do it. Yes. But I don’t think that it’ll be for a while. And it’s also taken me a year to get a photo up that doesn’t look awful. Burda does some weird autocropping. Meanwhile, I’m gonna try to find someone to take me out for a coffee date!

Stunning dress! All of your hard work paid off. Color and fit are perfect. I am currently making this dress and facing a few fitting challenges. I appreciate your honest comments. It is helpful to know that in some cases it takes several tries to get it right!

Thanks for your comment! By the way, french seams are really just doing seams twice, ..I use them to cheat, you see…you do that first seam at 1/4 seam…then try it on…you can tear out and try again on that first seam, knowing that you’re going in another 1/4 for the full 5/8th(the bend takes the 1/8th out…1/4 plus 1/4 plus bend(1/8)=5/8ths seam allowence….here is a good how to that I found..I really should do one for here too! LOL http://sewing.about.com/od/techniques/ss/frenchseam.htm Anyways…that first 1/4 lets me play abit…and it’s hidden away once I do the full french(lol)…it hides my tearing and re-sewing within the seam….do a few demo’s with some scraps….course…I haven’t done them on curves….just straight aways :) (like side seams on shirts/skirts/pants) it may be your saving grace as it’s been mine to 1/2 french then when you’re right..full french :) I hope this isn’t too long and I hope it helps you from tearing out your hair as it’s helped me! LOL

Super colour and beautiful on you.
I agree with your mother, make another one now that you know where to pin and tuck.

the color really is great, i agree with AnaJan. and i suggest you make another one really soon before you forget what you did! i always find it’s easier to make another right away then it goes so much (sew much?) faster and i don’t tend to make the same mistakes again (ok, sometimes i still do…to err is human, to rip and re-sew a seam divine!).
