I really wanted a bright blue coat but with a cape design but couldn’t find any on the high street so figured ‘hey, they can’t be that tough to make’ and here’s the result. I really like it but I think it will be a loooong time before I attempt a coat again. I think it’s the thickness of the fabric that put me off, especially when I was trying to do the collar and I didn’t find it quite as easy to make as I was expecting. It kind of reminds me of the capes the nurses wore during The War.
Decided to use 2 tone sari silk fabric for the lining which a friend brought back from India for me – it switches from burgundy to peacock blue depending on the light which is gorgeous!
It’s from Burda magazine August 2009 no.111

Go for it! I bet with a thinner fabric it would be alot simpler to make and I love the fact it’s such a unique pattern design, I’ve seen nothing remotely similar on the high street :-)

I love the color! I wanted a blue coat myself, but couldn´t find the fabric… I can also imagine how difficult it is to make this! Great job.

Thanks! Did find it frustrating while making it but I was glad I made the effort in the end.
