For a long time I have had in mind a plaid Larissa, originally planning for red and black.. but on my fabric hunting expeditions this amazingly soft and obnoxiously bright clashy plaid kept calling me back. Goldhawk Road, how I love you so!
It’s definitely the most complicated thing I have sewn so far and took me about a month, but it was a joy to figure out and to finally accomplish. Matching up the plaid was mind-bending and eye-crossing, that last glass of wine was not very useful when trying to correctly line up those slanting princess seams. Lengthened the bodice by three inches, kinda wish I had also made the waist band a bit wider too, by hey ho. Also lengthened the arms. Over-all, I am really happy with it, it is super warm and cosy and feels great to wear. Just wish I had finished it in autumn instead of spring!
Thank you to the girls at our sewing club for talking me away from my mismatched plastic zips and into John Lewis for quality chunky metal zips, they really do take the jacket to the next level.
Amazingly soft (and 50% off, yay!) plaid wool from Goldhawk rd, hot pink satin lining (which the sales guy was trying to talk me out of and into something more ‘sophisticated’, phffft!), chunky brown metal zips and studs, quite thick iron on inter-lining for extra warmth and a better hang, and a pair of small shoulder pads.
The results are in! Check out our winning submission.
