Description

We called them Gypsy skirts when I was a kid and twirled endlessly watching them unfurl. I’ve come full circle because now I’m making them and loving wearing them again. I’ve given up the twirling though. Logic made me realize that I didn’t really need a pattern for this skirt. I came up with a sort of formula for making these in any size without a formal pattern. The two pictured were made from cotton gauze for a tropical vacation I’ll be taking soon. But I’d like to also try this in a nicer fabric. I’m wondering how it would be with a little dressier look. If you have something like that I’d love to see it. You can check out my “formula” by clicking the link in credits below.

I’ve thought of using different prints with similar color schemes for each layer but haven’t had time yet. I saw something like that this summer and it was really pretty. I don’t have a ruffling foot for my current machine so I just gathered using a basting stitch. Thanks for your comment!

I wear skirts all the time, and my closet is full of this kind of skirt. I am known to suddenly stop and twirl, no matter where I am! I love them!

I find I’m loving them too. I’m making more. I may even take up twirling!

I made a trio of these last summer ( see my studio ) And again this summer I wore them - great for ballroom dancing as there is room to stride out - and twirl !!

I love this type of skirt. And you are never to old to twirl. :)

You made my day with a great laugh. And you know, you’re absolutely right. Positively no age limit on twirling!
