This is my first jacket and skirt combo. The jacket is McCall’s 5858 pattern. The skirt, I drafted myself. The shirt is also a McCall’s pattern. The material is a charcoal linen with a poly lining.
I learned a lot from this jacket. I learned that my shoulder’s require a forward shoulder adjustment and a shoulder blade addition for the back. I used the book Fit For Real People to get this worked out just right. When making this, I felt that there were certain things that could have been changed to make it better. Currently, I am working on a 40’s suit pattern through Sherry’s Tailoring Sew-along. I am learning all of these little things that make just a simple pattern into an amazing jacket.

Inspiring! I’m just moving into intermediate sewing skill and I can’t wait to do my first suit- I have a simplicity 40’s pattern that I’m itching to start cutting up :) Your suit looks fantastic, love the long pencil skirt

If you want some help with suits, you can check out the tailoring sew-along. sherry has a lot of helpful hints on how to set up a suit. there is also a flickr that we have that shows the progress of people’s suits. my muslin is on there about halfway through. i reworked it practically 7 times, but it will be worth it.

It looks amazing, you’ve done an excellent job. It’s great to be able to say “I made it all myself” isn’t it :-)
