These pants were a patternmaking class project and I’m pretty happy how they turned out though not until after some tweaking and tailoring. They were the first pants I’ve sewn and it wasn’t as hard as I expected, though I consulted probably five tutorials for the welt pockets and four for the fly front zipper!
I learned a valuable lesson about stay stitching after sewing these pants. My pieces are all pretty curved because I have hips and a butt, but it never occured to me to stay-stitch the side seams or waist like I would for a neckline or armhole. But after I was finished it was clear the fabric has stretched during sewing because they were way too big even though my pattern was good (and made to measure just for me). I took off the waistband and took in the sideseams, and achieved a pretty good fit after all, but next time I am stay-stitching to avoid having to make adjustments.
I blogged about my pants here: http://mybeaubaby.blogspot.com/2011/05/my-very-first-pair-of-pants.html
and as a work-in-progress, here: http://mybeaubaby.blogspot.com/2011/04/these-things-make-me-happy.html
this is a fine pinstriped denim-weight cotton

The part of pants i’m most intimidated by is the fly/zipper. I will gain the courage some day (maybe after i loose the baby belly pudge). Yours look very comfy and cute. :) Good job.
