Here they are, my very first attempt at making jeans. I started these by taking one of my favorite pairs, trying to measure them and draw a pattern based on the measurements. As I went along, I made some more changes and added different details such as different pocket on the back and my signature groin-buckle :)
I have really learned a lot from this project, the pockets and closure are so much better than the first pants I made (this is my second pair of pants ever) and I’m sure that next one I’ll make will be better again. But the truth is, they ain’t bad at all, and are already my favorite jeans. On top of that, other people like them too :)

Absolutely lovely pair of jeans. I have been thinking for ages to make a pair for my boyfriend, but have a problem to find right fabric. Hopefully when I find it, my jeans will be as good as yours.

Thankyou girl :)
Buying jeans fabric is not so easy because all jeans you buy in the store have been washed or mechanically or chemically aged. When you buy the fabric however, it’s ‘new’ so it looks different.
However, when you make pants out of it, it’s still kinda cool :)

Haha, thanks, but far from it :)
And I have been too busy to get anything done lately. Have made a new jeans and Tshirt a while back, but haven’t even found the time to put them online.
But, I’m starting a fashion design course on Thursday, so I’m excited about that. At least it will force me into spending some time on it :)
Sep 19, 2011, 07.39 PMby carolabrauns
I am envious – I also looked for a course like that. We have a design school in Hamburg, but if you participate all 3 years, it costs € 12.000,00. That’s too much for a hobby…
I wish all the best for you and your design course. And I hope that you still have the pleasure in creating nice things out of fabric. Maybe you tell me how it is going. I am curious about it.

er… can I quote you on that? ;-)
I don’t know what to say really. I don’t think there’s anything that can make me more happy than the idea that I inspired someone :)
Also, it’s a super motivator, so thank you. I will post new stuff, but I’m a bit slow because I have so many other things I like ;)

Oh, I’m afraid this took more than 4 weeks. As it was my first pair, I think I would be able to do it faster now, but still, it’s a lot of work.
Also, I don’t have enough time ;)

With a designer look? And an incredible fit? I am sooo impressed. I love all the little details you’ve added to make them yours. I wish more guys were into sewing. It’s so refreshing to see. Haha :) I think that you don’t give yourself enough credit. Things have to be sooo much better if you make them for somebody else because they don’t have this super nice ‘hey, I made this’ feeling.
I’ve seen those dresses you make, I don’t think your husband has anything to complain about ;)
Thanks for the nice comment!

Awesome job on the jeans!! I’ve altered my jeans, taken some apart and put them back together, and have made many other types of pants. But, making a pair from scratch is quite an accomplishment! Did you use a particular Schmetz needle? I ordered some heavy duty Singer needles online, size 16 and 18 to use on denim, and they work well on the thick seams. Thanks for sharing, and keep up the great work :-)
