When my little sister reminded me she’d be graduating in June this year, I didn’t really care that I had only been sewing for a couple of months: I decided I was going to make my own dress for the event. Knowing it would be cold here in the southern hemisphere, I wanted something with sleeves (which I didn’t have at all). I was inspired by Very Easy Vogue V8615 but I self-drafted the pattern for this little guy by myself (well, with the help of my sewing instructor). Ok ok… it’s not EXACTLY how I had pictured it, but I really really like it and I wear it all the time. Maybe more out of pride than anything else. I could hardly believe I had actually made a dress. And a cute one. So here it is, everyone, will all my pride and joy: my very first dress!!

Thank you very much! You will see that this website is the best place to get motivation as a novice. Post everything you make, I promise it will be rewarding! Good luck!

It seems that everytime I find a project that I like, you have made it! This dress, the scallop dress and the Kate Middleton dress. For being a novice you do beautiful work and I am looking forward to seeing what else you do. I now have the patterns for two of your posts. Now to be brave enough to try! Really nice job! Looks very professional!

Be proud, its wonderful……. I’m still too scared to post anything that I have sewn before, and I find myself with my low self esteem telling everyone what I made and pointing out the flaws… Bah!! Sometimes the easiest thing in wonderful fabric can be amazing. You chose well, good luck xxx

Oh, come on! If you look at my very first projects here on Burda you might feel tempted to laugh. But everyone here is super sweet and they always have something nice and encouraging to say to you. They give lots of motivation and we just feel like getting better and better. You should try!

You should! The only thing that requires a lot of attention is finding out which sleeve goes on each side! Other than that, I thought it was pretty ok to sew sleeves!

Thank you very much! You can see I was totally influenced by the Vogue picture, but I really like the fabric and it was quite cheap too. Just a great deal.
