My first attempt at sewing a coat/jacket. The outer fabric is corduroy and the coat is lined with some flannel from my stash. I collected the buttons over a few months, every time there was a sale, I bought a pair of theses buttons. The buttonholes were a big challenge as my machine didn’t like the bulk of corduroy layers with interfacing. At one point, it semed that all my work is going to go waste due to the buttonholes but I’m glad that I was able to make them all. After wearing it for a few hours and carrying shopping bags, the sleeves are wrinkled here which I think will be an issue with this fabric. Got a lot of compliments from strangers, appreciation is always encouraging!

Thanks Sarah! This has been one of my favourite colours ever since I wore an ethnic lehnga in this colour for a college party in 2000.

It’s beautiful! I love the color, the buttons, and the lining. My machine refused to let me make standard buttonholes—curse computers!! And so I did the zig-zag stitch on each one. This turned out so well!

Thank you so much Cantare! To zigzag the troubling buttonholes is a great idea. I’ll keep that in mind in case I have the same issue with my machine in future.

Thanks for the compliment! Since this coat was my first attempt and I wasn’t sure if it would be wearable; I didn’t want to buy any fabric therefore I chose to use this lively fabric leftover from a project in 2006.I’m glad it is being liked by everyone; I’m loving it too!

First coat….no way! This is fabulous. I wish my first coat looked this well….I wished the rest of them did too. But coats are somethign I have to work on. Like zippers are to most people, for me, it’s the coat.

Thanks so much for appreciating ! Well, I’ve seen your projects and love the coat/jacket for the baby girl and it is amazing and so is your white coat. Great job with the buttonholes and the zipper. I admire you for the wide variety of projects that you’ve made.
I was very nervous even after reading all the reviews of this pattern.I so wanted a bright coat and had told my hubby that I’ll not buy a coat this season so it was imperative that I made it wearable. I had to phone Simplicity for help with understanding the lining part since I didn’t want to buy more fabric if I made a mistake. I was very happy once it was complete and compliments from all you talented ladies is a reward.

Thanks so much for appreciating my attempt! It took me about 20 days to make this coat because I was terribly confused and nervous at some points.
I had made a reversible skirt for a friend’s daughter in 2006 with this flannel; the left over was all that I needed for the lively lining. She loved the skirt and i’m loving the coat!

Thanks a bunch! I had made a reversible skirt for a friend’s daughter in 2006 with this flannel; the left over was all that I needed for the lining and to add some more life to the jacket.
