My Evelin Brandt dress

Added Aug 21, 2007

by lilo

Nijmegen, Nether...

I followed very closely the Evelin Brandt pattern described in the Burda Magazine from June 2007 #139 (down to choice of colors) since I liked it as it was. I am happy with the result; it’s working well on a fuller figure too and yet far from the standard ‘tent’-like models for Plus-sized women.

Material Notes

Cotton, linen-cotton blend.

I love everything about it. The color of the fabric, the belt, the sleeves. You look great on it! Just suits you well. As s novice, I’d like to venture on a challenging project, I guess I have found it.

Lilo elainemay is right, the model in the magazine does NOTHING for this dress, I actually thought I won’t buy this issue (it’s just come out in my country) cos nothing really caught my eye, but I’ve reconsidered when I realised- hey Lilo’s dress is in here! You should send your pic to headquarters :o)

Elaine, I could imagine this dress on you in a bright colour setting (e.g. red, a jaquard woven red fabric for the dress and a matching plain red fabric for the details). I would also make the collar in the contrast fabric for you and shorten it a bit (above-knee length), I think that would look good on a small type.

Jj, A nice not too thick tweed – so modern now – would also fit. Then you have an autumn/winter dress instead; a small warning though about the big collar, it’s difficult to wear anything on the dress (jacket or cardigan) because of it. So tweed with a plain contrast, no collar, just simply finish the decollete with a piece of contrast cut on the bias.

i briefly thought about making this dress when i saw it in burda but then decided it probably wouldn’t look good on me. then i looked at yours again and thought “that really is so cute, maybe i should make it after all.” so i went to the burda website to see what sizes it came in and i have to say, looking at the photos, the dress is far more stunning on you than it is on the model! good job again!

Thanks a lot, heartwarming to see so much so nice feedbeack! The embroidery at the waistline are my initials. The idea was to give that last golden touch to my self-made wardrobe.

It is beautiful, I love the fabric you picked and the topstitching details look very professional. I particularly like the darker band at the bottom. Is that a signature embroidery below the waistline? Looks great.
