Since purchasing my new old new Bernina 1010 on the Christmas Eve of 2012, I have finished two vintage-inspired dresses and was finishing the third (Polka Dot) dress when it became quite clear that I need a dress form. I’ve been very lucky to find just this past weekend a vintage Dritz My double form from someone who bought it in 50th. The form is made out of mesh and can be fitted/molded to person’s body. I called her Alfoncina and promised her original owner that Alfoncina will be in good hands. I also followed her advice and dressed Alfoncina into two pairs of cut panties. It looks beautiful and it is easier to fit the dresses.
Alfoncina features two Petticoats/Crinolins/underskirts.

A pink petticoat is a re-purposed lining from a damaged party dress that I re-worked into completely different garment (will post it shortly). I left the side seam opened so that it can be worn with Butterick 4790 Polka Dot dress I posted earlier.

A white petticoat I made from the old summer dress by adding net layers to the cotton base.
I liked fine detailing – lace and tucks – of the dress but it was too small to wear as is.

Material Notes

Pink underskirt: Viscose and hard net.
White underskirt: fine cotton/voile and soft net.
What I learned from this project:
Use a proper lining material for the underskirt – ideally, made of natural fiber.
Use stiffer netting that holds better the shape of the full skirt.
