Description

Well wow, I needed that! I had a couple projects now on which I felt a bit disappointed with myself afterwards. It was just little things in the execution that left me somewhat underwhelmed (I always wanted to use that word!). It’s not surprising, if you start making your own patterns, somehow you have to improvise here and there, which is exactly where precision gets lost.
I improvised and made this shirt up top to bottom and still managed to keep my execution really clean. On top of that, I used my serger successfully in lots of places. There is hope! :-)
This top is again part of my long big project: a ten piece fall/winter/spring travel set. I am almost finished now, just in time for summer, har har.
If you’d like to read more about it, your visit over at my blog would be most welcome. Of Dreams and Seams

This shirt is adorable! It’s very Emma Pilsbury (sorry if you’re not a Gleek.) It really is cute as a button

I like it very much. It’s a piece you have to look at again and again. And still it’s not over… overdone in any way. It’s just very much one piece still. :) And I know EXACTLY what you mean about making your own patterns and having to improvise. That’s the worst part of the whole thing I find. But this is a great job! I also like the back-part!

Thank you! Yes, improvising is the best AND worst part about making up patterns, isn’t it? :-)

I love how well it goes with some of the other pieces in your travel set. You will get a lot of wear from this blouse.

Oh thank you! And yes indeed, I have already worn it twice in the five days after finishing, that is a very promising start :-)

Thank you Molly! You make such great things yourself – how could I have missed that until now?!

I love stories where people have pieced together an entire garment out of scraps :-)

Like the pleats (both in the body and in the yoke), but I’m not sure I’d wear this one as part of a winter (or even spring) travel set, myself! Having said that, it looks surprisingly good with the woollen trousers, so maybe if you keep your bottom half very very warm…? ;)

Yes, you are right, this is definitely for the very spring part of the set. But as you say, with the wool trousers and the wool jacket, hey, it could work even on colder days. Especially when you sit next to a fireplace :-)
