I don’t know if I should even post this….I am just learning how to sew and this was my very first bag made from a pattern. I used (what I think is) an upholstery remnant that is quite stiff and dusty pink linen for the liner. Using the pattern from madebyrae.blogspot.com, I followed her pattern excatly – except for the handles – I designed my own. Oh, and I didn’t have a magnet closure so I used a snap. I know, probably too flimsy but hey, it’s my very first try…..

Wow, it looks really good :) How big is the bag (left-to-right) please? I’ve been looking to make myself a new bag for work and this looks a lovely style to try – but I carry a lot of junk around (he he he) so I may need to enlarge the pattern.
Is it this pattern please? Your handles look a little different in style to those on Rae’s blog – does the pattern come with different options for handles please? Wednesday, February 25, 2009 Buttercup Bag Sewing Pattern by Made by Rae

Hi Seemane – thanks for the nice comment!
Yes, that is the pattern I used. I didn’t follow her pattern for the handles though, I designed my own; there is something I really like about having two handles on bags. I didn’t enlarge her pattern at all, although in hindsight it would probably be super cute a little larger! My bag measures about 11.5 in across the widest part and about 7.5 inches from bottom to top of purse body.
I hope this helps!
