Another Simplicity 4070 from me, this time I made a view E. Now this is actually bright pink in colour but due to the lighting and the red dressform, the photos really haven’t done it justice!
The dress isn’t quite finished (still need to do the fittings for my lovely bridesmaid and then insert the zipper and waist stay, and then hand sew the hem) but you could get a feel of what it will look like. We still have a lot of time to perfect it before the wedding (over 9 months to go).
This is my first time working with silk dupion and it was not half as bad as I expected!
I did use a few techniques, some of them I have grown very fond of, and some that I hadn’t tried out until now – eg flatlining the skirt with a hong kong finish (was actually really simple and effective!), stablising the top edge on both the lining and the fashion fabric with organza, grading & understitching, contrasting lining, etc.
The main thing that I still need to decide is what to do with the waistline – I experimented with a few things and I must admit, this dress is really versatile. The colour theme for the wedding is pink and ‘citrus’ so any ideas on embellishment etc are welcome! (If I were to follow the pattern it would be a pink medium width band with a corsage).
See more photos and techniques used (and to follow my progress on my wedding dress making..) on my blog
P.S. I haven’t ironed it so please ignore the wrinkles!
