Burda Style For people who sew
Description
I wanted to sew my wedding dress. Such an important day so the dress needed to be special as well.
I already had drawn the pattern pieces to another model but after seeing this pattern (a dress here on BurdaStyle by nouvellegamine) I couldn’t get this out of my mind! With the help of my mother I sewed the dress and I am really pleased how it turned out.
Belt is hand crocheted by my godmother about 20 years ago.
Pattern is 116 from Burda 3/2008.

I think it’s an extremely elegant gown … & I hope that you won’t be offended, & as I’ve already done my share of marriages, I would adore this as a night gown in something like a Swiss Voile, or very fine cotton … Your comments about it being a little too loose when you were fitting the gown made me feel relieved, as there’s no way I could wear it as a night gown firmly fitting. It’s just so gorgeous! I’ve actually considered the same thing about another gown that was selling as a wedding gown … It was so pretty … & again, as I couldn’t have it as a wedding gown, I decided to try making it as a night gown! :)) I’m sure that you will make a stunning bride …. & the reason you enjoyed making it was because you were putting all the love you have for your fiance, into the gown as you worked on it … & that’s another reason that you will glow when you wear it on your wedding day! :) Best wishes for the wedding.

Thank you! I think the pattern is really versatile. It would look cute also with shorter hem or as night gown as you said.

Gorgeous! It reminds me of Wallis Simpsons wedding dress, another favourite. Come to think of it the English royals have great taste in wedding dresses. Congratulations, btw!

This is an awesome dress. I had already seen nouvellegamine’s version and added it to my favorites. Your version is beautiful as well. This is definitely a candidate pattern for my own wedding dress? Was it asy to make? And the material your worked with, was that easy to sew?

Thanks! As I am not that experienced in sewing I would say it was something between easy and difficult to make. The material was easy to sew, but it was maybe because I did lots and lots of basting. I wish I had the patience to baste in my future projects as well :) Fitting took some time because the pattern was a little too big for me. I really liked to sew this dress because it was for such an important event. I don’t if I could have done it for something less important though.

The dress was quite nice to make. Fitting was something that took some time as the pattern was a size too big for me. I had to take in from various seams. I’m so lucky I had my mom to help me, the fitting would have been impossible without her :)
