This is my very first vintage jumper that I’ve knit up. I normally don’t post up my knitting projects on a sewing site, but seeing as how I had to hand sew each and every piece together, I figured it’s 30-40% sewing too. Plus I was just too excited not to share it with my Burda buddies.
This jumper is from the 40’s and is called Caledonia from a Whedon’s publication in Britain.
I made it with size 2 needles and a fingering weight yarn that is 75% wool and 25% nylon.
I have more images and details on my blog zilredloh.com

Wow, I am superimpressed! I recently started knitting, but I cannot imagine ever making such a beautiful sweater without any mistakes… How long did it take you to knit this?

It took me about a month and probably a week (give or take) to do the seaming. I’m really slow at the hand sewing part. Knitting it up wasn’t too bad, really. :)

Thanks so much! I love 50’s sewing patterns, but for some reason I love the 40’s knits instead of 50’s ones. Go figure. :)

Gorgeous! I’m so jealous of you people who enjoy and are talented at knitting, I haven’t the patience but adore these looks…

Thanks! Knitting GIVES me patience. I knit while I’m waiting for anything. Makes the time fly on my commuter and in doctor’s offices.

It’s perfect! I know how difiicult vintage knitting patterns can be, the yarn they use is different of what’s available now. And you are right, once you finished with knitting everything has to be sewn together, this is al lot of work,…

Thanks! I generally don’t post anything knitted on Burda, because I think of it primarily as a sewing site. But I couldn’t help myself since I did so much hand sewing on this puppy.

Ooh. I am longing for more vintage patterns after knitting this one up. But I probably shouldn’t go hunting since I have plenty in my queue already.
Are you on ravelry? I’d love to see your vintage knits, too.
