Mustache Button-Up Shirt

Added Jul 16, 2013

This is my first piece of Menswear that I have made…but I’m sure it won’t be my last, because it turned out totally awesome. I got this lovely mustache fabric printed on organic cotton sateen from Spoonflower. I fell in LOVE with this print as soon as I saw it, I was initially going to make myself a dress in it, but it really suited this Men’s Shirt sewing pattern. I sewed the shirt true to the pattern with little alterations, it was really easy to make and fit super well! I sewed it in a size 50 here, but I did lengthen it 1" and I added a pocket. Boys really like pockets on their shirts.

I have a feeling I’m going to be making a lot more of these, guys want to be stylish too!

Ah a! That’s where the tab is supposed to go! I made this for my boyfriend and was utterly confused about that. (I put it on the inside in the end.) I also struggled with keeping the flat fell seams straight and accurate. But mine is for costume / festivals so can be a bit rough. (It is bright green with multicoloured spots.)

    I love the fabric!

Nice Meg. I find men easier to sew for; less fitting issues!

Absolutely fantastic and please make more, as am seriously short of men to go on my Sassy Sewing Bees page https://www.facebook.com/SassySewingBees Accordingly I have saved this to go in due course.

Thank you! I will for sure be making many more, with little pattern alterations, like maybe add a long sleeve for fall!

Yeah it was intimidating as I have been sewing womenswear for over 10 years lol…but it was nice to switch it up! You should give it a try!
