This top was inspired by Fashion Week videos from India -from color to shape to embellishments. The fabric and trims are from a store that imports clothing, jewelry and fabrics from India. I drafted the pattern myself from my basic loose fitting dress block. The main fabric is a polyester chiffon with a bright print embellished with gold foil print. The top has a deep V neck embellished with a band of bright pink organza and sew-on glass stones. The midriff band is a strip of organze appliqued with a embroidered and sequined lace band. There’s a couple bias strips of the fabric sewn into tubes inserted into the band for tightening against the midriff. The double points of the front are based on what was in the fashion show. The sew on “rhinestones” are made of glass and they were sewn on by hand.
This was quite easy to make and finished up quickly, even with sewing the stones on by hand. It’s best if a cami or tank top is worn underneath because the chiffon turns quite sheer in the sunlight. With a skirt it’s very dressy, and it gives a bright bohemian touch to jeans and casual wear. In spite of the sequins and bright print it doesn’t work well for evening; it’s not sophisticated or elegant, it’s more fun and playful.
