It’s not an original idea. I’ve seen this in a japanese book somewhere, I remembered it was simple and easy and since I had to do a Christmas gift swap last week, I thought of making this for my partner. It was a big hit and everybody wants one now :). My talented cousin came over to drop off my Christmas cakes order and she requested one for herself. And in return, she modeled for me :D. This year, Misfits teacher also got this :) but I forgot to take pictures. You can wear this many ways!

How do you think, if I use “press buttons” (those metallic ones), instead of sewing buttonholes, would it work?

I like the colours and fabrics but the model looks like her elbows are tied down to her sides when the buttons are fastened. Is it really that restrictive, or is that just the photo? How does it stay on when the buttons are not fastened, with no shoulder shaping? I might be having some kind of mental block, but I just cannot see how you fasten it on in the shape of a cape from the diagram. Can you explain?

I thought this looked adorable and though I wondered the same things s you I thought it was just the pictures so I went ahead and made this anyhow.
There is absolutely no way this is wearable unless it’s made out of some serious stretch. Even though I made it longer I can’t move a stitch if I have it done up in any of the ways shown here….well, the scarf perhaps but it isn’t worth making just for a scarf. I just wasted some perfectly gorgeous fabric on this so don’t do the same!

mmmm…it certainly is wearable :) but if you’re not as skinny as my super skinny cousin, you might want to elongate the width and make more buttons. When there are only 2 buttons, it was a bit tight, hence the picture in red…but the brown and yellow used 3 buttons :). I’ve used cotton, if you want to use knit, it would be even better. You can also make it longer :). I guess the safest way is to drape the fabric over your body and see how much length would be needed. I hope that helps
