Morigan La Strange is made of 100% cotton (high quality jersey and general woven cotton) and consists of a skirt in classic a-line form paired with a dramatic long-sleeved blouse. The skirt’s pattern is a playful field of flowers set against a brown background. The fabric made me think of a dress I had back in the 80’s and I couldn’t resist. 7 buttons close the skirt at the back.
The most enjoyable part of this project was making the sexy/clingy shirt… It’s based on the pattern created by JJ that was uploaded here a while back. I made a few modifications to the pattern after seeing all the great pictures uploaded by the other cloth crafters here… I lengthened the hemline a bit since I didn’t want to spend all day pulling it down. The leg-o-mutton sleeves are sewn extra long and cozy with ruffling about the cuff edges. I added a ring of ruffling around the neck edge and the neck was made taller. It’s now meant to come up nice and tight, right below the chin, framing the face. It’s aided in this effort by a simple cotton scarflette-choker the exact same shade of eggplant as the blouse. Seems when you add generous ruffling that ruffling wants to cause the neckline to droop. I wanted no drooping so the the choker/scarf worked out.
I was a little leery of using cotton jersey fabric to be honest. I didn’t think it would be so cooperative or that it could looks so tailored. I was really tempted to make it out of a non-stretch woven cotton, with the idea of the shirt being buttoned down the back (yeah, I’m big into buttons lately). In the end, I found a really high quality jersey cotton and it was easy to sew with too.
