This Halloween I decided to attempt a ‘nearly accurate’ recreation of the Mord’Sith costumes from the TV show Legend of the Seeker. I’m a practical sort. I wasn’t willing to spend a small fortune or be massively uncomfortable for the sake of accuracy. I chose to use a spandex body suit instead of head to toe thin red leather and I used pleather for the corset and gorget (neck protection) instead of real leather. The biggest challenge by far was not draping the pattern (which I did), sewing the pleather and embroidering the edges to resemble tooling (which I also did) but finding a source for reasonably accurate buckles. I ended up approximating the style in order to save time on shipping and much money.
pleather, spandex, glue

I have occasionally sold copies of the pattern that I drafted. Folks use it as a place to start and make adjustments to fit it to their size. Let me know if you’d like copies of my patterns :)

Oh, incidentally, for those who are interested, the additional hair was purchased from my good friend Tressa over at http://PuppyCatMeow.etsy.com and was custom matched like she does for all her hair pieces. The agiel in my hand was made by my awesome new internet friend Rebecca and is a prototype for some agiels that will be made available for sale to the public soon. When she tells me where, I’ll post the information!

That looks amazing! Goodkind’s books are by far some of my favorites and you did such a good job recreating the costume.

Oh my god! A mord sith costume, this is amazingly awesome. I just read the Wizard’s First Rule and they are one of my boyfriends favourite series. He freaked out with excitement when I showed him this.
Well done, this costume is amazing. You did such a great job.

Thanks! Most people just thought I was a dominatrix sigh. I’m thinking pretty seriously about taking it to DragonCon 2011 where folks who know can appreciate it ;)
