This project was made for a beautiful ballerina, my daughter. She can also wear both of these items in or out of dance class, which makes them so great!
Where did my vision for this tank come from, well… It was a combination of two things one being Melonhead’s latest summer tank project (thank you). The other was a recent shopping trip that I took with my daughter to one of those “superstores” (not to name any names but it starts with a “W”). She was insistent on buying a tank top she had eyed that was black with shoulder straps made out of a zipper and that continued down the middle of the back. I immediately told her," No Way" it was totally tacky and looked cheap, but I did think it was a cool idea. Not mentioning that to her, the thought of that zipper idea stayed on my mind. I was haunted in my sleep thinking of that tank top and of how I could make that design wearable. I woke up enlightened with a more elegant version (at least I thought so). I think this tank says, “I’m a Lady”. Not , “Could you unzip ME!” ;{Tank; Long zipper, stretch jersey, and vintage scarf & doily. Ballet shorts; Cable knit sweater and elastic

the zipper straps are so creative. I need to ‘favourite’ it so i don’t forget to make one just like it later on! ps. also LOVE how you used extra lace on the back to create the racer back. :]

I saw your post a while back and was laughing at y our statement about the rtw garment you had seen. Ok. I saw this top in reference about a week ago…that’s how long it took me to find this post agian. haha You are so right. That top is so wrong. And it does scream: “Could you unzip ME!” ;{ I liek your variation much MUCH better.

Thanks! let’s see i’ll have to think this through a bit? Remember i am a novice with sewing (still learning).I’m not very good about explaining how to do something.I’m much better at showing you. The only part that was a little tricky was getting the zipper between the fabric and the interfacing at the top in the back, so that it looks really nicely finished. I’m kinda a perfectionist with stuff, but especially when it comes to stitching and the finished product. The rest i just took her measurements and drew up a tank pattern. Working with stretch fabric is very forgiving when your still learning how to take measurements. This is kinda a “How to”?! :D

I think this is so beautiful. I agree with you on the cheap looking clothes that are being sold to girls. I think your top is mom proof and daughter proof You should sell these on Etsy. The pictures are great too.
